Project Playhouse is the unique fundraising event
that benefits HomeAid Orange County, a non-profit organization that
builds and renovates shelters for the transitionally homeless in
the community. With immense imagination and craftsmanship, Southern
California's premier homebuilders have designed, constructed, and
decorated whimsical cottages that look like they have popped from
the pages of a fairytale.
The Auction has been extremely beneficial to HomeAid
Orange County’s Housing Development Program. HomeAid was founded
by the leadership of the Orange County Chapter of the Building Industry
Association of Southern California in June, 1989 to help alleviate
the homeless problem in Orange County. HomeAid is successfully mobilizing
and utilizing the skills, talents and financial resources of BIA-member
companies and the community to construct and renovate housing for homeless throughout Orange County.
To date, more than 1,500 companies and 25,000 volunteers
have helped HomeAid raise nearly $20 million of in-kind, labor and
cash donations to add more than 608 beds to assist Orange County's
transitionally homeless. Transitionally homeless are
defined as those who are in immediate need of food, clothing and
temporary shelter due to such factors as sudden job loss, catastrophic
illness, or spousal desertion.
HomeAid Orange County has successfully built and/or
renovated 41 housing projects in the past nineteen years and currently
has four in the construction or planning phases, and, when
completed, will add 221+ beds:
1. Village of Hope (Orange County
Rescue Mission) – Tustin
For homeless families
2. The Catholic Worker - Isaiah House - Santa Ana
Providing food and housing for the homeless
3. Precious Life IV - Los Alamitos
Serving homeless pregnant women
4. Mustard Seed Ranch - Warner Springs
Serving neglected and at-risk children,families, & individuals
Shelter projects have benefited homeless
individuals and families, abused children, women in crisis pregnancy,
mentally disabled, adults living with HIV/AIDS, homeless youth ages
11-17, single mothers and their children, and victims of domestic
violence.
HomeAid Orange County has been very
successful due to the commitment and participation of members of
the BIA and the Orange County community. HomeAid will continue to
serve the transitionally homeless as long as a problem exists. To
