Anaheim Ducks Power Playhouse
By: Windstar Communities
Partner: Anaheim Ducks
Architect: JZMK Partners
Interior Design: Anaheim Ducks, JZMK Partners & Photomation
Landscape Architect: Urban Arena, LLC
Every child dreams of being just like their favorite athlete - experiencing their name being chanted by a sold out crowd of fans, scoring the game-winning goal and savoring the thrill of victory. The Anaheim Ducks Power Playhouse is the ultimate venue for any Ducks fan to live out their dreams of playing Anaheim Ducks hockey and feeling what it is like to be a Stanley Cup champion!
The precision craftsmanship of the Anaheim Ducks Power Playhouse replicates the exterior of Honda Center, the home ice of the Anaheim Ducks and one of the top entertainment centers in the world. The Playhouse’s interior is an exact replica of the Ducks locker room where they get ready and pumped-up to play each game. Like the Ducks real locker room, the playhouse features locker stalls filled with hockey equipment and Anaheim Ducks memorabilia. To watch the Anaheim Ducks games on television, the lockers surround a 23”LCD digital flat screen television with a DVD player, a Sony PlayStation 3 to play NHL 2K8 and also a surround sound speaker system.
Since every professional athlete must practice hard to get game-ready, on the outside of the playhouse there is a mini-rink featuring a skid surface to perfect slapshots, power plays and saves. Die-hards fans can cheer you on from the bleachers.
After a tough workout, the Power Playhouse is a great spot to relax as the inside is also customized to feature many of the amenities in which Honda Center’s first-class suites possess. The room features a comfy sofa, framed photos and memorabilia of the Anaheim Ducks and a mini-fridge to store all of your water bottles. For more hockey fun inside of the playhouse there is also an air hockey table – just one more way to enjoy the game with friends.
The Anaheim Ducks Power Playhouse is a dream come true for any hockey fan and will let a pint-sized one live out their ultimate fantasy of being an Anaheim Duck!

Lakeside ReTreet
By: UCI Facilities Management Group
Architect: Lind & Associates
Interior Design: UC Irvine
Landscape Architect: Conceptual Design & Planning Co.
Experience the magic of your very own lakeside hideaway. This cozy retreat is nestled among the trees overlooking the shore of a sparkling lake. Follow the winding walkway to the waters edge and your private dock. You might want to explore the lake by rowboat in the tranquility of the early morning. With a slight chill in the air you might want to sip a steaming cup of hot cocoa on the deck as the sun crests the treetops. You have a grand view of the lake from the deck and you will probably also see the blue jay that seems to visit your tree everyday. Perhaps he’ll make his home there.
After a day of exploring the great outdoors, come back to your welcoming home and relax by a blazing fireplace Curl up in an overstuffed chair and watch movies on the flat screen, listen to some tunes on your iPod, or read a good book. Oh, and don’t be afraid to walk on the rug, it just looks like a real bear.

LuLu's Diner
By: Building Industry Technology Academy (B.I.T.A.)
Sponsored by: BIA/OC
Architect: B.I.T.A./Katella Students
Interior Design: Architectural Product Resource & B.I.T.A. Students
Landscape Architect: Urban Arena, LLC
This flashback entry was built by students of the Building Industry Technology Academy (BITA) at Katella High School in Anaheim. This program is one of three at local high schools created by the Building Industry Association, Orange County Chapter to educate students about all aspects of residential homebuilding and craftsmanship. Under the supervision of their professor, the students began their journey to HomeAid Orange County’s Project Playhouse 2007 in April. With generous help from BIA/OC member companies and financial support from the Southern California Building Industry Education Foundation, the playhouse materials and countless hours of volunteer work were donated to make this entry a true success.
This design was one of ten that students created for an in-house competition. After the selections were narrowed down to five by the BITA students, the finalists presented their concepts in front of their peers and industry members. Selected by four BIA/OC member architects and a structural engineer, the winning design was the first step in creating their playhouse. KTGY integrated the students’ ideas and merged them with plausible structural engineering and construction practices. To ensure on time success of the project, North Orange County Regional Occupational Program held a special BITA summer class at Katella High School for the students to work on their entry.
Their structure, titled LuLu’s Diner, is modeled after traditional 1950’s restaurants and includes state-of-the-art materials, features and aesthetics including an i-Pod docking station, PlayStation, surround sound, flat screen television and one-touch control panel. From conceptualization, design, building and completion, the entry was done by the excited students learning hands-on how to create a structure built to scale.
Due to the industry’s continued involvement in the BITA program, students are learning the latest green techniques. In addition to LuLu’s Diner being student created and built, it is the very first to ever be California Green Building certified for its effective use of resources including a solar panel, sheet metal siding, standing seam metal roof and LED lighting.

Shizuka An a Peaceful Teahouse
By: Finton Associates
Partner: KTGY Group, Inc.
Architect: KTGY Group, Inc.
Interior Design: Interior Design Concept
Landscape Architect: Nuvis Landscaping
Shizuka An, Japanese for Peaceful Teahouse, reflects the simplicity of Japanese architecture and the incorporation of nature.
The exterior of the playhouse exemplifies the traditional usage of wood work. Cedar wood shingles are used to protect the teahouse, directing rain flow to surrounding copper gutters, which ultimately flows down a lily–shaped copper rain chain. The front lift-and-slide and side slider doors both open up onto a teak deck, creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior space.
Its clean and uninterrupted layout space addresses the functional aspect of Japanese Architecture allowing children to use the space to their liking. Whether it may be having a tea party, playing board games, watching movies on the LCD, or playing games on the Play Station 2, the open space leaves plenty of room for the imagination.
Landscape and hardscape not included.

The Sketch Pad
By: William Lyon Homes, Inc.
Architect: Lind & Associates
Interior Design: Meridian Interiors
Landscape Architect: FORMA
All children fancy having their own special place to foster their daydreams, what better place to create those visions than your very own art studio…
This impressive “pad” will inspire those little artists beyond their imagination. There are designer touches throughout. The flat screen TV and DVD player above the fireplace provide hours of entertainment. Exterior speakers enhance the Zen atmosphere and help encourage the creativity within.
Representing a craftsman design, with its full wrap vertical siding and large front porch reminiscent of lazy summer days gone by, the appealing exterior will accentuate any home and garden. Delightful masonry accents compliment the architecture while handcrafted Dutch French doors invite you to the dreamy porches, where one could “sketch” away the afternoon…
Quality and craftsmanship are reflected in the striking metal roof, generous porches and rich exterior. The décor is spacious, cool and airy, perfect for the budding Picasso within. The interior boasts a faux brick fireplace, rustic ceiling and floors and handsome custom cabinetry. Beautiful French doors with access to the charming porches allow your imagination soar. Exotic green foliage and an array of art and color are just a few of the finishing touches.
William Lyon Homes is proud to be participating in its 16th annual Project Playhouse. We are extremely grateful to our contributors who generously donated their time and experience to help build our artist studio. We are excited to be part of home Aid’s efforts to provide shelter for the temporarily homeless in our community.
We hope “The Sketch Pad “ will ignite creativity in future generations and assist those less fortunate in finding a home to call their own

What 'A' Playhouse
By: Taylor Woodrow Homes
Partner: Angels Baseball Foundation
Architect: Della Marna Architecture
Interior Design: Taylor Woodrow Design Center
Landscape Architect: Urban Arena, LLC
For the second time, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is joining forces with Taylor Woodrow Homes to create an Angel Baseball themed playhouse that will bring a taste of the big leagues to one lucky winner’s backyard. Appropriately titled “What A Playhouse!”, in honor of this year’s team slogan, the deluxe dwelling is designed to replicate the Angel Stadium Press Box and Media Conference Room and is one of two Opportunity Playhouses for 2007.
Future Sportscasters can practice their on-field reporting using real camera equipment as they narrate backyard battles and hone their very own signature catch-phrases. Little league journalists hoping to become the next Rex Hudler can practice their play-by-play skills at the playhouse anchor desk or host a home field press conference while interior cameras capture their big league telecasts. Push-button sound effects put you in the game and even allow you to lead local fans in a seventh inning stretch rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
“What A Playhouse!” includes two LCD television monitors, a closed circuit TV system and a complete audio/visual and DVD entertainment system. With special thanks to the Angels Baseball Foundation, our miniature Press Box is filled with Angels’ collectibles and merchandise including a framed team jersey by everyone’s favorite hometown heroes!
PS - Don’t Forget to Light the Halo when the Home Team Wins!
All interiors and exterior stairs are included with this Opportunity Playhouse. Landscape and hardscape is not included.
