A house is a building that functions as a home for one or more people. The term may refer to a single-family dwelling, such as a townhouse or villa, or to an entire housing block or group of houses. Houses also serve as places of work, entertainment, and worship, or they can be used to represent social status or political affiliation. The size and appearance of houses vary greatly and can serve as a symbol of wealth or status. Some houses are built of high-quality materials and are luxurious, while others are simple or modest. Houses can be built for a variety of reasons, including as a shelter, a demonstration of power and wealth, or simply to provide warmth.

The house is the primary setting in which people live, learn, and grow. People spend most of their lives in a house, and it has a significant impact on their mental and physical health. For this reason, a house should be designed to meet the specific needs of its residents. A well-designed house can enhance the quality of life by providing a safe, comfortable, and convenient place to live.

Whether large and elaborate or small and simple, a house usually expresses the personality and lifestyle of its inhabitants. It is often decorated to reflect its owners’ interests, and the location of a house may be intended to arouse a particular mood. For example, a house built of recycled materials might symbolize the owner’s environmental concerns. Houses can also be a symbol of status or a display of wealth, and many are given landmark designations to protect them from destruction.

Gregory House (often referred to as simply House) is a fictional diagnostician on the television show House. The character is portrayed by English actor Hugh Laurie. House is a Board Certified Diagnostician with a double specialty in Infectious Disease and Nephrology. He is also a prolific writer and has been awarded several literary awards.

The show requires viewers to have a Willing Suspension of Disbelief to maintain its premise that House is the most brilliant doctor on the planet. His disregard for protocol and his refusal to respect other professionals often put him at odds with the hospital’s administration. In the end, however, his patients’ lives are his top priority.

House’s father was a Marine, and he instilled discipline in his son. House often exhibits the antithesis of his father’s compulsive neatness and punctuality; he dresses like a slob and is frequently late for work. His impulsiveness and lack of self-control can be dangerous, however.

In season 6, Cuddy tells House that she loves him while standing in his bathroom, and he thinks it’s another hallucination. Despite his attempts to avoid it, the two begin living together in the latter part of the season. House later marries Dominika in season 7, although the marriage is a sham for the purposes of his green card application.

House has a habit of hiding from his patients, but he eventually reveals to his staff that his leg injury is from a fall in which he was trapped under a car. He then empathizes with a patient who refuses treatment because of previous misdiagnoses.
