What is a House?

Representatives are elected in even-numbered years to single-member districts, and the total number of representatives is fixed by law at 435. The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of Congress, with the Senate being the upper chamber.
The house of a political party is sometimes called the “people’s house.” A member of this house can be known as a member of the People’s House, a House Member or an Outgoing Member.
