When designing a house, the location and layout are important considerations. It’s also important to consider how the light in the house will flow. For example, if the sun sets in the west, the house should have rooms that face that direction to allow for beautiful sunsets. Similarly, if the morning sun shines through the windows in the east, the house should have rooms that face that way as well.

The term House refers to a building, but it’s also used to describe a group of buildings or a community of homes. A house can also be a symbol of identity and status. For example, a mansion reflects wealth and power while a small apartment signifies poverty and modesty. In addition, a house can be a metaphor for family.

As early as the 17th century, houses evolved in response to changing societal structures. Feudalism, for instance, led to the construction of castles and manor houses that emphasized security and hierarchy. The Renaissance era, on the other hand, saw the rise of grand and elaborate houses that spoke to an emphasis on art and culture.

In its first season, House ranked twenty-fourth among all television shows and was Fox’s most popular series other than American Idol. By the third season, the show was attracting an average of 19.4 million viewers per episode. The season four finale, which featured a shootout between House and Moriarty, garnered the highest ratings to date with 25.5 million viewers.

According to the Congressional Research Service, Jefferson’s manual served as a guideline for House procedures and largely excluded debate on the floor of the chamber. In fact, until 1850, Clay didn’t even use his right to speak on the House floor during debates. Today, House Speakers rarely speak on the House floor except when conducting parliamentary matters.

Typically, the Speaker of the House appoints members to committees and holds hearings to gather input from constituents and other interested parties. Once the committee has completed its work, a bill is referred back to the House for a vote. If the House approves the bill, it becomes law.

The majority of the work of the House takes place in its committees and subcommittees. Membership on a committee is based in part on seniority, but the choice of members also is made by political parties. Generally, party leaders honor the preferences of their members by giving them preference on committees.

During clinic duty, House grudgingly fulfills his obligation to treat patients in the hospital’s walk-in clinic. His wry observations about their personal lives and eccentric prescriptions often serve as comic relief, but his fast diagnostic abilities occasionally inspire analogies that help solve the cases. Moreover, his creative methods of avoiding clinic duty often provide insights that make up the bulk of the plots. Despite his indifference to patients, House is an extremely popular character among television fans. In 2005, the show received a Peabody Award and was named one of “America’s Favorite TV Shows” by the American Film Institute.
